Confidential Settlement Against Dementia Care Facility – Patient Dumping

Confidential Settlement Against Dementia Care Facility in “patient dumping” case: An Oakland dementia care facility repeatedly dumped an elderly woman who had lived at the facility 4 years in the Emergency Room of a hospital because her son had lodged complaints against the Executive Director of the facility. The son had complained that the facility management was recklessly understaffing the facility and engaging in other practices that endangered the residents. The elderly woman suffered transfer trauma as a result of the dumpings and forced relocation, and died within months of being transferred to another care home. After the lawsuit was filed, both the Executive Director and the Vice President of the corporation were terminated, and the corporation sold the facility to a family-run corporation.
