$600,000 Settlement for Race Discrimination in Employment

$600,000 Settlement for Race Discrimination for Failure to Promote Black Employee: A black employee of a large corporation repeatedly sought promotions to management positions for which he was qualified, even obtaining an M.B.A. to make himself more competitive. He applied for dozens of positions. In denying him promotion over a 10-year-period, the company had one excuse after another for why he could not be promoted, all the while promoting non-Black employees with the same or lesser qualifications to management positions. The black employee, realizing that he would never be judged by his merits, he resigned and soon got the type of management position he had long sought, with another company where he supervised 40 employees. He retained Felicia Curran to represent him, who sued the company, and ultimately obtained a $600,000 settlement on his behalf.
