$281,000 For Pregnancy Discrimination

Felicia Curran represented an Alameda County employee who was fired less than 24 hours after telling her employer that she was pregnant. When the company fired her, they commented that because she was pregnant, she could not cut it in the work force, and should just go home. After the employee sued for pregnancy discrimination and wrongful termination, the Company contended for the first time that they fired the pregnant woman for job performance issues and/or due to “downsizing” of their work force. Through depositions and discovery, Felicia was able to obtain a large number of company emails which contradicted the Company’s arguments, obtaining a $281,000 settlement for the young woman.
